Skill Building with OT & AHA Support
Helping You Build Confidence, Independence and Real-Life Skills
At TheOTLab, we believe everyone has the potential to grow, learn, and live more independently. Our skill building programs are designed to help you strengthen everyday abilities through practical, goal-based Occupational Therapy, supported by our skilled Allied Health Assistants (AHAs).
What Is Skill Building in Occupational Therapy?
Skill building is about learning or re-learning the skills you need to take part in everyday life. Depending on your goals, this may include:
- Personal care (e.g. showering, dressing, grooming)
- Cooking, meal prep and healthy eating
- Money management and budgeting
- Time management and using routines
- Using public transport and community access
- Household tasks like cleaning, laundry or shopping
- Social skills and communication
- Self-regulation and coping strategies
Your Occupational Therapist (OT) will work with you to set goals that are meaningful and achievable, then create a tailored plan to help you build those skills over time.
How Do OTs and AHAs Work Together for Skill Building?
Our Occupational Therapists lead the way in developing personalised therapy plans based on your goals and needs. Allied Health Assistants (AHAs) then work alongside you to practice those skills in real-life situations, under the guidance of your OT.
For example:
- Your OT might assess your ability to cook a simple meal, set a goal, and teach you the steps involved.
- Your AHA can then support you each week to practice e.g. cooking in your home, reinforcing strategies and building your confidence.
Ongoing Occupational Therapy & AHA Support.

At TheOTLab, we believe that meaningful change happens over time with the right support.
That’s why we offer ongoing Occupational Therapy (OT) and Allied Health Assistant (AHA) services that work together to help you reach your goals, while keeping therapy accessible and affordable.
