Letters of Recommendation

What is an NDIS Letter of Recommendation?

An NDIS Letter of Recommendation is a letter written by your occupational therapist to help you get the supports you need funded in your NDIS plan.

This letter explains why you need certain supports or equipment and how they will help you in your daily life. It’s used as important evidence when you’re applying for the NDIS, having a plan review, or asking for extra funding.

What does it include?

Your occupational therapist will write a letter that:

  • Describes how your disability affects your daily life

  • Lists what supports you need (like support workers, equipment, home modifications, therapy)

  • Explains how these supports will help you work towards your NDIS goals

  • Gives clear reasons (called clinical justification) to show why these supports are reasonable and necessary

Why might I need one?

NDIS Letter of Recommendation can help you:

  • Apply for the NDIS if you’re a new participant

  • Request new funding during a plan review

  • Show evidence for needing more support hours

  • Get approval for equipment or home modifications

  • Explain changes if your needs have increased

How does it help me?

The NDIS needs clear, professional evidence to understand your support needs. A letter from your occupational therapist can:

  • Make your funding request stronger

  • Help you get the right supports sooner

  • Reduce the chance of delays or questions from the NDIA

  • Support you to work towards greater independence, safety, and participation
